                                Premiere of Copper Trails Collection

Helen Serras-Herman premieres her latest Copper Trails Collection.
This new collection is inspired by Southern Arizona’s

copper mining history and Helen’s visits to several of these mines.
Helen gave a very successful lecture presentation in Green Valley recently
about “Visiting Southern Arizona’s Mines for History & Inspiration” as part
of her 10-Lecture series at GVR, and has written the corresponding article,
soon to be published.

As she noted in her lecture

“many mines were discovered, many fortunes

were made and lost in “them hills”, as the miners say. It’s all about the

precious metals, gold, silver and copper. All of Southern Arizona’s major

mines produce valuable copper ore, and the highly-sought-after copper

related minerals-- turquoise, azurite, malachite and Chrysocolla. Turquoise

from the Bisbee mines and the Sleeping beauty Mine near Globe is legendary,

as well as Chrysocolla in Chalcedony Quartz, known in the trade as Gem Silica,

some in spectacular drusy formations from the old Inspiration Mine and

the current Ray Mine near Globe.”

In Helen’s latest collection Copper Trails, her one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces
feature many of these beautiful Arizona gems, combined with her favorite Australian
Black Opals and Boulder Opals and the rare Sugarcane Emeralds from Brazil, in some
beautiful ‘twisted’ combinations of gold, sterling silver and copper, chains, beads,
copper-color pearls and carved gems.

in the just published Summer 2010 issue of the international magazine
Gems & Jewellery. Helen’s work, Marine Ray, a Larimar pendant set with
Chrysoberyls and 18K yellow gold and a detachable strand of Larimar beads,

Southern Arizona has been a center for mining exploration for over 100 years. Many mines were discovered, many fortunes were made and lost in “them thar hills” like the miners say. It’s all about the precious metals, gold, silver and copper. All of Southern Arizona ’s major mines produce valuable copper ore and the highly-sought-after copper related minerals turquoise, azurite, malachite, chrysocolla along with a multitude of secondary minerals. Turquoise from the Bisbee mines is legendary, as well as chrysocolla in chalcedony quartz, known as Gem Silica, some in spectacular drusy formations from the old Inspiration Mine and the current Ray Mine near Globe.

In this presentation we will take a tour of the Asarco Mission Mine, in Sahuarita, the Good Enough Mine and Tombstone Mine, in Tombstone, the Bisbee Queen Mine, in Bisbee, the Morenci Mine, in Clifton and the Ray Mine, near Globe. All of these mines have played a vital role in the population and development of this area. Details will be given of the guided tours that are offered or the overlooks, so that you may visit them and get a better understanding of the magnitude of the mining and the processes involved.

Helen’s latest Copper Trails Collection is inspired by Southern Arizona ’s copper mining history and her visits to several of these mines.
